CHICAGO!

So I'm moving to Chicago.  And for my going away party, I made my own cake.
My roommate helped and came up with the idea of the sprinkles and putting the city silhouette around the edge instead of the top.
Yay!  Enjoy!

My First Paid Wedding Cake

So it was a groom's cake, but still..it was a paid gig!  Yay!
Below are pictures!  From start to finish, distasters and all.
Disaster one.  I thought it was done!  Ahhhhh!

So yeah...I can't even begin to explain what happened.  Its crazy!

The base without the screen.

See the nasty chocolate edge?  Ewww...had to fix it.

With screen! YAY!

I added a power cord and charger to hide the icky base.

New Cakes!

Ok, so I know I promised to clean up the Myth-ing Cake but I've been super busy and blogging just takes time to do properly.  So I'm going to leave that the way it is for right now and post a couple pictures of what I've done over the summer.  I"m also working diligently on my first commissioned cake.  Its a Groom's cake for my friend Marisa's wedding on Sat.  I can't tell you what it is cause its a surprise for the groom but it should be AWESOME!
Cake 1:  Watermelon!

I used a special pan by Betty Crocker (borrowed from a coworker) to make the dome cake, then simply overlaid with green fondant (left over from Myth-ing Cake) and painted it.  The coloring was made by flicking the brush right and left on a solid line that I painted down the sides from the center.
The next cake I made for Barbara's birthday at work.  She said she wanted something simple, so I did something simple.  A simple vegan chocolate cake filled with raspberry jam with chocolate buttercream frosting and fresh raspberries to garnish.  It took me like 2 hours!  Totally easy!
Everyone loved it and thought it was a bit over the top.  Hey, I call this simple!
Simple 2 layer.  Easy as a wink!

You can see my lack of talent for circle on square.  It wasn't centered very well and the corners of the square were not well done.  Its not my best work but it tasted GREAT!

Pretty yet simple.  At least that's what I thought.  Happy Birthday Barbara!

Jason's MYTH-ing Cake

Here are some pictures...I will edit once its done and I have more time to make it look nice.  :)

Yes that is vodka.  I got really really stressed.  :)  No, actually you use it for the fondant paint.  Water makes fondant melt, so you use alcohol.  Thanks to the roommate for that alcohol!  :)
GLEEEEEEP!!!!

He's soooo cute!

More to come as I finish it. I think I might add Skeeve and Aahz but humanoids are HARD!

After much waiting, here's a finished picture of the cake!

Jamie's Birthday Cake!

Happy Birthday Jamie!!

Isn't she cute!!!!

Jamie's cake and little ones for the other babies.

Adult cake.

Side view.  I was going to do a basketweave on the side, but I'm just not good enough at it yet.  So instead I opted for tiered stars.

Close-up of the tiered side.

My first attempt at flowers.  A friend in cooking school said they looked fantastic!

Here's the pink one still on the flower nail.  Getting them off and onto the cake is the real challenge!

Vegan Spice Cake with Buttercream/Cream Cheese Frosting

I love to make cakes!  Love it!  Love it!  Love it! Here are few pictures of the cakes of the past.

Vegan Chocolate with butter cream filling with vegan chocolate cream cheese icing.  It was to die for and so rich it could have owned its own boat!

Tribute to University of Louisville for my friend's birthday.  He loves UofL.  The bottom layer is a white cake with buttercream topped with a chocolate football with chocolate buttercream icing.  All vegan.

A simple vegan chocolate cake w/ (gasp) store bought icing for my birthday last year.  I took this one to work.

This is the other cake I made for my birthday party.  It says "Ladies Night" and the layers completely fell apart.  That's what I get for not letting them cool all the way.  I get way ahead of myself.  This is vegan chocolate with vegan chocolate cream cheese icing.

This is my cake graveyard that I made for the 3rd Friday the 13th we had in 2009.  Its vegan chocolate with store bought (gasp again) icing and Hershey sections as tombstones.

This is a corset cake for my friend's personal shower.  She loves corsets and so do I. This is vegan spice cake with vegan cream cheese icing and vegan buttercream decorations.  The cream cheese icing didn't turn out too well and some of the stays in the corset are off, but hey - she loved it!  :)

This is my latest cake for the birthday of a co-worker.  This is a vegan spice cake with buttercream/cream cheese frosting (a simple buttercream recipe with 8 oz of cream cheese added, I think I could have used 10-12oz but 8 is all I had).  It is topped with ginger hard candies (rose shaped) that my roommate made especially.

I used a texture tool that I got for Christmas for the edges.  The problem was that 2 of my cake pans are bigger than the 1 so I had a tower affect going on.  Very difficult to do with a texture tool consistently.  Once I get 2 pans that match my Wilton 8", it'll turn out much better.
